Aranmula kannadi

Overview

Metal mirrors has been prevalent in India for 2000 years, since metal age. Aranmula mirrors specifically has been around for around 350 years.

Aranmula Kannadi is India’s 2nd GI product and Kerala’s first.

Unlike mercury coated mirrors, the image formed on the front surface of the mirrors is without any refraction which makes Aranmula mirrors stand out.

DESIGN INTERVENTION

Visual communication and  awareness through children’s story book

PROBLEM STATEMENT

Field visit and documentation of the Aranmula metal mirror craft of Kerala and development of a brand identity as well as a design solution to elevate its awareness in an educational setting.

DESIGN SOLUTION

Creating an illustrated  children’s story book teaching them about the history &story  behind Aran mu la mirrors to help  them better  empathise and educate them on the same.

Illustration style: Boban & Molly

 

Boban and Molly are the characters of a political  satiric Indian (Keralian) weekly comic series

created by VT Thomas (known by the pen  name Toms) and is one of the longest  uninterruptedly running comic series of the  world.
